Design Revision of Kurokawa’s small chair

2007/04/22
I’ve, too, revised the design for my small chair. In the first design, the angle of the bent part between the seat board and the backboard was precise 90 degrees. But the revised design has adopted a continuous curved line for the surface of its seat and back. One reason for this change is, of course, to improve the feeling for sitting on. There is also another crucial reason, that is, the difficulty of producing the wooden chair with its first design.
The angle between the seat board and the backboard had to be exactly 90 degrees, the making of which is actually very difficult. Even if it is precisely done, with the passing of time, the angle is likely to be changed because of the wood material affected by such factors as temperature and humidity. It’s actually extremely difficult to administer precise right angle since the two boards of the seat and the back connected in the angle of 90 degrees and their supporting frames also connected in 90 degrees have to be close to each other. This caused me to adopt the design using the curving board I took up for my arm-chair to the design of the small chair, too.
Thus I’ve introduced two small chairs as well as Shin Azumi has. My small chair made of acryl keeps its original design with right angle between its seat and its back.
